A Village Built a Little at a Time
When we look at epoxy flooring jobs in Denmark, the age of the building tells us the most. The village grew slowly and steadily. Wikipedia shows 735 people in 1920, 1,012 in 1950, 1,364 in 1970, 1,612 in 1990 and 2,408 in 2020. So the homes here come from almost every decade, and so do their garage and basement floors.
Floors by era
- Early 1900s homes near downtown often have basements with thin, uneven or patched concrete. Many have been painted more than once.
- Mid-century houses tend to have one- or two-car garages and slabs that have seen decades of salt.
- Newer homes on the edges of the village have bigger attached garages and smoother, harder concrete.
Each one needs a different prep plan, so we look before we price. On older floors we grind off paint and sealers, fill pits and cracks, and level rough spots. On newer floors we grind to open up the dense surface so the coating can bond.
Salt from I-43 and the county roads
Interstate 43 opened just west of the village in 1981. Many residents drive it daily toward Green Bay or Manitowoc, and it gets salted hard in winter. That salt comes home on your car. A coated garage floor keeps brine from soaking into the concrete, which is what causes flaking and pitting near the door.
A working village
Denmark has always been a place where people make things. The village's dairy history runs from Hans Beyer's cheese factory in 1896 to the Lake to Lake cheddar plant. Today Wikipedia lists employers such as Dufeck Wood Products, Northern Concrete Construction, Salm Partners and United Cooperative. Small shops and garages tied to that kind of work need floors that hold up.
For small commercial spaces, workshops and service bays, our shop and commercial floor epoxy uses a thicker build and a chemical-resistant topcoat. It cleans up easily and does not shed dust like bare concrete.
Basements in the village
The village provides water and sewer service, so most homes here have conventional basements. Older basements can be damp, and moisture through the slab is the top cause of coating failure. We test every basement before quoting. For dry slabs, basement floor epoxy brightens a laundry room or storage area. For a finished space, metallic epoxy gives a poured, glossy look.
Garage systems we install most
Full-flake epoxy hides dirt and salt film and adds grip. Polyaspartic topcoats cure fast and stay clear in sunlight. A solid-color epoxy with a clear top is a simpler, lower-cost choice.
Near the Devil's River State Trail
The old rail line through the village was turned into the Devil's River State Trail, finished in 2013. Many people here keep bikes, trailers and outdoor gear in the garage. A coated floor makes that space easier to keep clean, and a textured flake finish keeps footing good when the floor is wet.
A note on old cheese plant and farm buildings
The Lake to Lake plant closed in 2014, and the area has plenty of older commercial and farm buildings. If you own or are reusing one, we can look at the slab and tell you honestly whether it is a good candidate for a coating, and what prep it would need.

What to Know in Denmark
- Settled by Danish immigrants. Niels Gotfredsen became the first Danish settler in 1848. The village was incorporated in 1915 after a special vote that passed 109 to 26.
- Steady growth over a century. Population went from 735 in 1920 to 1,364 in 1970 and 2,408 in 2020. The 2010 census counted 988 housing units in the village.
- Next to Interstate 43. I-43 opened just west of the village in 1981, linking Denmark north to Green Bay and south to Manitowoc and Milwaukee.
- Village water and sewer. The village provides water and sewer service and owns the Denmark Wastewater Treatment Plant, built in 1980.

Denmark Questions
My Denmark home is over 80 years old. Can the basement floor be coated?
Often, yes. We grind off old paint, fill cracks and pits, and test for moisture. If the concrete is too thin, crumbling or wet, we will tell you what it needs before a coating is worth doing.
Do you coat floors for small businesses in the village?
Yes. We do workshops, service bays, storage rooms and small retail spaces. We plan the work around your hours and give you a clear time for reopening.
What garage finish handles I-43 salt best?
A full-flake floor with a polyaspartic or epoxy topcoat is our usual pick. It is seamless, so brine stays on top, and the flake hides salt film between rinses.
